Google Supplemental Results, Yes They Still Existed

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

At the beginning of this post I will do a quick revision about Google supplemental index assuming that some people those are reading this post don’t know about it. Almost two years before Google has created a supplemental index in addition to its main index but pages in this index:
- Are not crawled as frequently as the main index (when the supplemental index started supplemental pages were not updated for more than once every three months)
- Most likely they will not rank for competitive keywords, Google tends to show them when they don’t find adequate results in the main index.
To make the story short, when your page marked is supplemental it is died (from seo standpoint). In the past Google got use to mark the supplement page so it was easy to know about them:

What happened few month before is that Google turned this mark off, so it is getting harder now to find out about those pages. What happened after is that many webmasters forgot completely about them considering that Google doesn’t have the supplemental index any more.
I want to assure for you folks that supplemental index still exist like before and many of your pages might be affected by this and you don’t know, it is just getting harder to find about them. You need not some manual investigations to know about them, if you see a page on your website that has gone from a good ranking to the pavilion most likely it went into supplemental page. Here is one of my posts that was ranking well for the phrase “SE O Training in Toronto” which is not very competitive one, but a month before it doesn’t shown anywhere for this term.
So if you agree with me that the supplemental pages are still exist, it is time to go through some recommendations to keep your pages away from supplemental index:

- Try to pass link power to you important page using intelligent internal navigation or building inbound links directly for those pages not just for your home page.
- Make sure to have enough text on each pages to make it look unique, avoid also using duplicate titles/meta tags for your pages.
- Don’t use duplicate content on your pages

Should SEO Companies Stop Submitting to Paid Directories?

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Paid directories submission is on of the most popular technique that many seo companies and use for build links, it is affordable easy and doesn’t fall latterly under buying links even if it is.

If you are good seo and try to keep your self updated with the new industry news you should noticed that Google has penalized many paid directories last week (i.e Aviva directory, Alive directory and more), does it mean Google is trying to kill the link building technique? My be.

While I tried to figure out what has pulled the trigger for this penalty I have found out that most of those directories are involved in kind of link building for the sake of PR/inbound links number and all of them offer packages like if you want your anchor text to be keyword rich upon your choice not the name of your company then you need to pay almost double amount, unlike other directories like Yahoo and BOTW where you don’t have this choice, actually anybody sees this choice will know that this just for the sake of getting some search engine love, in other words manipulating search engines, Personally I like this choice but I cant see it is totally clean. Most of those directories are less of 3 years of age which means they are almost new comparing to other directories like Skaffe, Joeant and BOTW etc.

Finally what I am trying to say is that this technique has not died, it just has new rules now, you need to care about the quality and authority of paid directories before you do any submission, I will try to list few directories those I think they would not penalized buy Google in future and they will keep passing link love to website listed on them:

Google Indexes New Domain in a Week with no backlinks

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

I have signed up a new domain

Domain Name: FOR-BETTER-HEALTH.COM
Created on: 08-Jul-07
Expires on: 08-Jul-08
Last Updated on: 08-Jul-07

A few days later I have created a blog for that domain, no link building after that, and I havent submit it to any search engine.
Yester day 22-Jul-07 I went online to do sum link building for the new domain and it stroke on my mind to check it in Google catch and I was surprised to find it in the index.

I know that the website will not rank for any keyword but still get it in the index that fast with 0 efforts is a good thing
and while asking my self how did Google know about the domain .. there is 2 possibilities:
- Google is using the toolbar data to index page .. so may be in future Google will use the tool bar in a similar way to Alexa tool bar to rank and index pages
- Google is a domain register and they might use their data to add new domains to their search index.
Finally quick indexing has many benefits especially for those who provide good content, it is easy for them to be identified as the source of these content

SEO Fortune Teller 2007

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

I know I am late to write some expectations about how seo will look like in 2007, first of all let us go back to 2006 and check which factor had the biggest effect on the SERP, the answer is inbound links, no matter what you read daily about on page factors (Titles, meta tags, HTML tags), inbound links especially when it comes to highly competitive keywords had absolutely a the hugest impact on the SERP. For sure when we say inbound links we can’t ignore the factor those give more value to your inbound links like: anchor text anchor text relevancy, quality, quantity etc. (I didn’t repeat anchor text by mistake)

Now in 2007 what do you think will change ?

I have a list of high competitive keywords, some of them has more than 200 000 search volume with Overture those my websites or a website those I have seoed rank very will for them in Google and to be more specific top 5 spots in Google, and I have got this good ranking through a lot of quality inbound links with targeted anchor text. Until today I still have them ranking well, which means inbound links with targeted anchor text still works, BUT I have some concerns about the future of this technique in 2007 and I will till you why.

I think you have read at the beginning of this year that Google has killed Google bombs, and the idea behind Google bombs is getting thousands of inbound links to point to a page with a specific anchor text (Most likely funny term and doesn’t have anything to do with the page content) which will rank it in the first spot for that term. So as Google killed Google bomb, that means they have tweaked their algorithm but is that tweaking going to undermine the anchor text value ?

Killing Google bomb could be done easily without that, if the robot just check the document for the targeted anchor and doesn’t find it can count it not unrelated (I hope they are using this simple technique).

What increased my fears is a thread that I have read in WMW this day says that some webmasters start losing some ranking being gained using the anchor text technique.

You know what, I will not go farther with this thread without more evidence, meanwhile I am doing some kind of case study to rank will for a high competition term and I started this after Google killing the Google bomb, so far no luck but I still need to wait few extra months before any final conclusions, I will update this post when I get any significant results

Cheers

Globalwarming Awareness2007

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

globalwarming awareness2007 this phrase is the targeted phrase through the seo contest organized by seo World Championship, I here want to tell you common things about seo contests:
1- Most likely the chosen phrase should return 0 results with all search engines, especially the big ones Yahoo Google MSN
2- Just white hat practice is allowed, you need to stick to the quality standards applied by search engines
3- The time of the contest is 4-6 months
4- Some contest try to fight for a cause through the phrase like this one “globalwarming awareness2007″ obviously they are trying to publish awareness about the global warming phenomenon.
5- The score that decides the winner always depends on its ranking with the big three search engines Google Yahoo MSN and always the good ranking with Goolge will return better points for the contestant and then with Yahoo and finally MSN
6- The winner always win a valuable reward with $10 000 average, and most of them reward the first three positions.

For us in search engine optimization Toronto we always sign up a few domains for any seo contest and try to make it like a case study to see what works and what doesn’t , and wining this kind of contest will require high budget of time and money

Finally We Are Out Of Sandbox

Friday, November 24th, 2006

I want to remind you about my article that related to Google sandbox and its impact about new site:

Google Sandbox

As I told you before, my domain name is search engine optimization Toronto dot com, which is the same of the term that I am trying to target “search engine optimization Toronto” but that wasn t enough in the first 9 months of the age of this domain with Google, since my site was showing no where with Google for that term, and I want to tell you:

- My site mostly has unique original content

- All content on the site are seo or SEM related

- I have a punch of good related inbound links

- The site is search engine friendly

But all of that wasn t enough to rank my site well for that term (Even in the first 10 pages) and now after the site spent about 1 year in the sand box, it is finally on the first page with Google.

So I need to remind every web master and all seo people that seo is a matter of good content , good optimization and time, so be patient guys

  Cheers
